Gary Reysa, publisher of BuildItSolar.com, is an author of several build-it-yourself solar collector articles published in Home Power News and Mother Earth News.
A retired airplane product development engineer, Gary, lives in “Big Sky” country near Bozeman Montana. Although, he has always been interested in solar energy projects moving to an 8,000 degree-day climate and living in a house with a bad solar design sparked his interest in solar energy and renewable resources to a new level.
“One of the most appealing aspects of the solar thermal area is that ‘garage inventors’ can make meaningful advances.”
This newly accelerated interest in solar energy led him to search the web for solar heating ideas. Noting a lack of good information, for people who possessed enough building skills to tackle such a project and build it themselves, the idea for BuildItSolar.com was born.

In addition to his articles on solar collection his website offers links to hundreds of DIY friendly solar and water conservation projects, his “half program” where he discusses the projects he used to cut his energy use in half, and because to quote Gary, “I like doing hands-on projects, especially ones that involve building prototypes to test new concepts."
Article 1: Build a "Solar Heater"
This article was featured in Home Power Magazine and Mother Earth News.
Article 2: Build a "Solar Garage"
This article was featured in Home Power Magazine and featured custom-built glazed doors can turn your garage into a sun-warmed winter workshop. Gary claims that it is his personal all time favorite because it features solar collection and natural daylighting in one project (Gary now knows he could have used Palsun® flat polycarbonate or Sunlite Multi-wall polycarbonate to make the project even better).
Article 3: Build a "Solar Shed"
This article describes a solar heating scheme Gary uses to heat his house. The solar heating collectors are mounted on his new garden storage shed.
